USCIS Finalizes Guidance on Signature Requirements

USCIS announced that it will no longer accept power of attorney signatures effective March 18, 2018. In a finalized guidance, USCIS stated that forms filed by a corporation or other legal entity must be signed by an authorized person who is employed by the petitioner. USCIS also noted that it may reject forms submitted with faulty signatures rather than offering opportunities to fix them.

The finalized guidance updates a previous interim memo, which allowed individuals granted authority under a power of attorney to sign on behalf of a corporation or other legal entity. The guidance does not affect signatures executed on behalf of individuals below 14 years of age, or those with disabilities.
